Baking Normal Maps -- High to Low Polygon Models


1.  Create High and Low Polygon versions of your model.

Both versions should be approximately the same size.

2.  Check direction of Normals.

Both versions should have Normals pointing in the same direction.  
(ie both pointing out or both pointing in.

Select Low Polygon model:  Edit Mode

Buttons Window menu >> Editing (F9)
Tools More tab
Draw Normals button

Check Normals

Repeat for High Polygon model

3.  Add a UV Texture to the low polygon model.

The high polygon model doesn't have to be UV mapped.

Select low polygon model

Buttons Window menu >> Editing (F9)
Mesh tab
UV Texture: New
Give it a unique name
