Stencils:  Real Time Texture Splatting





  


 
1
Create a new Texture for the Stencil

Note:
A stencil is a black and white texture.  It is placed between the 2 textures you want to merge.  White makes the top texture transparent so you can see the texture under it. 

Create a stencil
UV/Image Editor menu >> Image >> New

Stencil name and size

Note:
Give the stencil a unique name.  For this tutorial, I'm naming it Stencil-ground.  Because this is for the game engine, the stencil size should be a power of 2 -- 32 x 32 or 64 x 64 or 128 x 128 or etc.  For this tutorial, I'll make the stencil 512 x 512 pixels.

Give it unique name
Name:  Stencil-ground
Set Width and Height
Width:  512
Height:  512
OK button

Save the stencil to your hard drive.

UV/Image Editor menu >> Image >> Save

Enable Blender GLSL Materials

User Preference menu >> Game >> Blender GLSL Materials
