Texture Paint:  Paint tab

Note:
Painting the stencil with white makes it transparent so you can see the mud texture under the grass.  Use Subtract to erase.

3D View menu >> Mode box >> Texture Paint

Buttons Window menu >> Editing (F9)
Paint tab:
Draw button enabled
Brush Color:  White (R: 1.0, G: 1.0, B: 1.0)
Brush Mode:  Add

Note:
The active uv texture is the texture that will be painted on.
