6.  Add a Texture to the Material

Note: 
For this example, I am using an image with a Alpha background for the weapon reticle.  

Buttons Window menu >> Shading (F5) >> Texture buttons (F6)
Texture tab
Add New
Texture Type:  Image
Image tab
Load
weapon reticle with alpha background
Map Image tab
UseAlpha

 


  
7.  Add UV Texture to material

Buttons Window menu >> Editing (F9)
Mesh tab
UV Texture:  New
Give it a unique name
